I grew up in Philadelphia where I developed my woodworking skills at a young age. When I was a teenager, I worked for plumbers, bricklayers, and home remodelers. I was lucky enough to have a mentor that helped me get started with woodworking.
My curiosity, creativity, and mechanical inclination drove me to study engineering at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, where I graduated with a degree in Materials Engineering. I have worked hard to put myself through college by working various construction jobs and teaching marital arts. After graduation, I worked as an integration engineer for a high tech company. I then changed careers and moved to a ceramics company as a production engineer.
I started collecting the necessary power tools to build my own workshop when I was working for corporate. I purchased a VL300 Vicmarc short bed lathe and began to learn the art of turning wood, which I have fallen in love with. I continued to learn woodworking and engineering for several years and have finally decided to combine these two talents and start Elegant Wood Works. I wake up every morning and truly love going to work.
